Account & Data Deletion
How to delete your JoinTheSip account and the data tied to it
JoinTheSip lets you delete your account and your personal data at any time, directly from the app. If you no longer have the app installed, you can also request deletion by email — see below.
1. Delete from inside the app (recommended)
One-tap deletion is built into the app. There is no waiting list and no support ticket — the request goes through immediately.
- Open the JoinTheSip app and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm the action. You will be signed out and the deletion job kicks off.
2. Delete by email (fallback)
If you cannot access the app — for example because you uninstalled it or lost access to the email on file — write to privacy@jointhesip.com from the email address on your account, with the subject Delete my account. We will verify ownership and process the deletion within 30 days. Most requests complete inside 7 days.
If you do not have access to that email any more, write to us anyway and tell us the display name, the city you check in from, and an approximate sign-up date. We will use that to identify the account and ask you for one extra piece of verification before we delete anything — we are not going to delete an account on the word of someone who cannot prove it is theirs.
3. What gets deleted
Within 30 days of a confirmed request, we delete or anonymize:
- Your profile (display name, photo, city, age confirmation).
- Your email and any other login identifiers.
- Your check-ins, drink logs, photos, notes, squad memberships, and messages.
- Device identifiers we associate with your account.
- Crash and analytics data tied to your user id (the records are kept in aggregated form but stripped of identifiers).
4. What we keep, and why
- Aggregated venue analytics — counts of check-ins per venue per hour, with k-anonymity ≥ 20 applied before they leave our database, so no slice ever points back to a single user. These are kept after deletion because they no longer identify you and they are part of the venue dashboard product.
- Records we are required to keep by law — payment records, fraud / abuse reports, tax records, or legal requests. We keep these for as long as the relevant law requires and no longer.
- Backups — encrypted backups can take up to 90 days to fully roll over. Deleted data is no longer accessible to the app or to staff during that window; it is purged on the backup rotation.
5. How long it takes
In-app deletion: account is signed out and marked for deletion immediately. Personal data is removed or anonymized within 30 days. Backups roll over within 90 days.
6. Aggregated venue data after deletion
JoinTheSip's venue partners only ever see aggregated data — never your name, your photo, your messages, or your check-ins as an individual. The k-anonymity ≥ 20 floor means a venue dashboard cell is suppressed unless at least 20 distinct users contributed to it. After your deletion, your contribution to past aggregated counts cannot be unwound — but it cannot be traced back to you either, because the data was already aggregated when it left our infrastructure.
7. Questions or problems
If anything about deletion is not working as described, or you think we have missed something, write to privacy@jointhesip.com. If we cannot resolve it, you can complain to your local data protection authority — for users in the EU, that is the supervisory authority of the country where you live.
